Privacy Policy

Foldout is a local macOS app. The short version: all tool processing happens on your Mac, your files and the work you do with them never leave your Mac, and the app does not track what you do.

What the app does on your Mac

All processing — finding duplicates, converting images, video, PDFs, OCR, and the rest — runs locally on your Mac. Foldout does not upload your files anywhere.

What we collect

• No app-usage telemetry. Foldout does not report which tools you open, what you click, what files you process, clipboard contents, feature usage, crashes, or behavioral activity. There is no account to create for using the app.
• Trial start — when Foldout first runs and can reach our licensing service, the existing trial system sends a salted, one-way identifier for that Mac plus the local first-launch time. This enforces one trial per Mac even if local settings are reset. We also use only the aggregate number of these trial records to understand how many Macs have started Foldout; we do not expose or inspect individual identifiers for analytics.
• Purchases are handled by our payment processor, Paddle, who acts as merchant of record and collects the billing details needed to complete your order and meet tax obligations. See Paddle's own privacy policy.
• Your email + license — when you buy, we store your email and the license we issued so we can deliver your key, help with purchase questions, and handle renewals or refunds.
• Activation & Macs — to enforce how many Macs a license covers, activating a Mac stores a privacy-preserving Mac identifier(a one-way hash — never your raw hardware ID) plus an optional Mac name you can see and remove from your account. It can't be used to track you across products.
• Software updates— when the app checks for updates it requests our appcast feed. That's an ordinary web request and isn't tied to your identity.
• DMG delivery totals — our download host provides daily aggregate counts and bytes by public DMG path. We retain those daily totals to estimate downloads by release. Foldout does not store request-level IP addresses, user agents, cookies, or request identifiers in this report, and retries or partial downloads mean the result is an estimate rather than a count of individual people.
• Website analytics — the marketing website uses Google Analytics to understand traffic (page views, downloads, checkout steps) and improve the site. It sets analytics cookies only if you accept them in the cookie banner; decline and no analytics cookies are stored. This covers website activity only — never your files, app activity, license key, or anything you create in Foldout. The Foldout app remains free of feature and behavior tracking.

Who handles the data

StashNx operates Foldout and handles Foldout buyer questions. We use service providers only for the website, email delivery, license delivery, payment processing, and basic hosting needed to run those buyer flows.

How long we keep it

Purchase and license records are kept while your license or subscription is active, and longer when needed for tax, refund, fraud-prevention, or legal recordkeeping. Salted trial identifiers are retained while needed to prevent trial resets; daily aggregate DMG totals are retained for historical product reporting. Website analytics data is retained per our analytics provider's settings. None of these records are tied to your files or app work.

Your choices

Email hello@getfoldout.com to ask for a copy, correction, or deletion of data tied to your purchase or licensing activity. Some purchase, license, or trial-enforcement records may need to be kept for legal, tax, refund, fraud-prevention, or abuse-prevention reasons. Aggregate DMG totals do not identify an individual request or person.

Email

We email you your license key and, for subscriptions, renewal-related messages. We don't send marketing email unless you ask us to.
